The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League is investigating a viral video where a fielder appeared to click his fingers to trick the umpire into giving a batter out. The incident occurred during a Division Two match between Saltburn's second XI and Norton, with the league confirming a formal complaint. Saltburn won the match by 159 runs and stays top of the table, while additional allegations have been made about earlier matches.
An English cricket league has opened an investigation after a widely shared video seemed to show a fielder snapping his fingers to mislead the umpire into declaring a batsman out. The footage, viewed over three million times on social media, captured the moment during a North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League Division Two encounter between Saltburn’s second XI and Norton.
In the video, a Saltburn fielder apparently clicks his fingers as the ball goes past batsman Noman Shabir’s bat, after which wicketkeeper Josh Bowes takes the catch. The umpire then ruled the batter out. The league stated it has received a formal complaint regarding alleged incidents in that match and has started a full investigation, declining further comment until the process is complete.
Saltburn secured a 159-run victory in that game and remain at the top of the Division Two standings. Reports also indicate that allegations have been made about two other incidents during a previous Saltburn match.
