Prime Minister took part in the 152nd Aadi Vel festival by offering a pooja tray during the street procession of the New Kathiresan Kovil on 28 July. The event, held continuously since 1874, saw the Prime Minister receive blessings and later be honored with a floral garland and ceremonial shawl by the organizers.

On the afternoon of 28 July, the annual Aadi Vel festival of the New Kathiresan Kovil moved past Temple Trees, where the Prime Minister joined the religious ceremony by presenting a pooja tray on behalf of the Prime Minister's office during the street procession.

Following this, the organizing committee of the Vel Procession showed their gratitude by giving the Prime Minister a floral garland and a ceremonial shawl.

The Aadi Vel Festival and Chariot Procession, jointly organized by the New Kathiresan Kovil in Chetty Street, Colombo, and the Nattukkottai Nagarathar New Kathiresan Kovil in Bambalapitiya, has been held continuously since 1874, with this year being the 152nd edition.
